I’m always in the middle of debates for origins and consequently for the cures for autism (ASD).
As previously mentioned in one of my Slovene posts in this blog, I don’t need a cure for ASD or for any of our other neurodiverse traits (DCD/dyspraxia and ADHD). I love my and my son’s weird nature, our inventiveness, our need to push forward, and our ability to think out of the box.
Curing ASD would kill me.
I wouldn’t be the one who I am today.
An aspie wonderwoman…
And my son wouldn’t be an aspie superhero boy.
You might think we’re nuts.
Parents of other ASD children usually think I’m nuts, since I don’t want to heal or cure our ASD.
Don’t get me wrong, I DO have a need to cure – my insomnia, my insecurities, my anxiety, my on again off again depression.
Same goes for my son’s disabilities in terms of mental health balance.
For secondary induced impediments, illnesses and states regarding our mental health – we DO NEED A CURE!
For the rest of our impediment – we just need our TRIPLE A CURE.
Help your children get “cured” with a triple A cure:
- Awareness,
- Acceptance and
- Appreciation
And (for other peoples’ sake) in terms of addaptive behaviour skills… We DO need a PLUS DOUBLE A CURE:
- Accomodation and
- Accessibility
It’s all in the letter “A”, a-a-a-a-a!
A for ASD and A for AS.
Have a wonderful international AuTiSTiC DAY!
Ignorance -> Awareness -> Tolerance -> Understanding -> Acceptance -> Appreciation
AWARENESS IS NOT ENOUGH!
